Skype – Is it all just HYPE?
Being the tech nerds we are at ZONE-X, we try to avoid the hype of new technologies until they prove themselves. With the recent advances in Voice Over IP (VoIP) systems such as Vonage, we have been hearing more and more buzz about Skype. So you may ask, what exactly is SKYPE?
Skype is, as explained on their website (www.skype.com):

Skype’s mission is providing a simple, reliable and friendly communications tool that just works. With that in mind, we tested SkypeOut (calls allowed from Skype, to any other phone in North America). We heard a recent buzz that Skype was offering SkypeOut for free until the end of 2006. What better reason to try it out and enjoy some of the freedom of free calls? We couldn’t pass it up.
Skype installs very easily on Windows XP. Without much effort, we installed the latest version and were off and running. Skype allowed us to call any number in North America for free. No credit cards required, no fees, no loopholes… just free.
After testing it out extensively with several colleagues, we realized that this truly is the way telecommunications will be in the future (mind you, not too distant future).
